The Taliban’s High Commission for Addressing Migrants’ Problems announced that 2,259 Afghan migrants were deported from Iran and Pakistan on Sunday.
According to the commission, the deportees comprising 444 families returned to Afghanistan through the Torkham, Spin Boldak, Pul-e Abrisham, and Islam Qala border crossings.
The Taliban said the largest number of returnees entered through the Torkham crossing in Nangarhar province, where 385 families, totaling more than 2,000 people, were deported from Pakistan.
Pakistan and Iran have intensified the deportation of Afghan migrants in recent months. The United Nations and human rights organizations have repeatedly warned about the deteriorating human rights situation, widespread poverty, insecurity, and lack of employment opportunities in Taliban-controlled Afghanistan.
International organizations have also stressed that Afghanistan’s limited capacity to absorb large numbers of returnees, combined with severe shortages in humanitarian funding, has placed deported familie particularly women and children at significant risk.
