The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy has announced that the Strait of Hormuz has been closed until further notice and that no vessels will be permitted to transit the strategic waterway until what it described as “U.S. interference” comes to an end.
In a statement, the IRGC said that one vessel was stopped after failing to comply with instructions issued by Iranian forces and was halted following warning shots.
The announcement came after recent U.S. strikes in southern Iran.
However, the IRGC’s claim that the Strait of Hormuz has been closed has not been independently verified. U.S. officials have not yet issued an official response, and there have been no independent reports confirming a complete disruption of maritime traffic through the strategic waterway.
